Classification Categories

Our systems use five distinct classification categories to assess and manage call traffic risk levels.

  1. Spam

Very Low Risk - Generally Safe to Leave Unblocked

Spam calls encompass marketing, unsolicited, or debt collection calls that lack clear evidence of being illegal or legal. These campaigns generally pose minimal risk to your network and are typically safe to leave unblocked.

Note: Blocking spam at the carrier level may be considered for highly sensitive carriers, but this is not advised as a standard practice due to the risk of inadvertently blocking legitimate traffic.
  2. Scam

High Risk - Recommended to Block

Scam campaigns are well-documented fraudulent activities within the telecommunications industry, including Amazon order scams, Visa/MasterCard impersonation scams, and similar deceptive schemes.

Recommendation: FraudCentral strongly recommends enabling blocking for all identified scam campaigns to protect your network and customers from financial and reputational harm.
  3. Traceback

High Risk - Recommended to Block

Traceback campaigns are flagged by the Industry Traceback Group (ITG) and are actively associated with traceback investigations. Although some campaigns may appear benign, their involvement in tracebacks signals potential risk.

Recommendation: FraudCentral recommends enabling blocking for all traceback campaigns to prevent fraudulent activities and support industry compliance.
  4. FCC Target

High Risk - Recommended to Block

The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) periodically identifies campaigns for targeted enforcement, such as those related to student loan scams or auto warranty fraud.

Recommendation: To block these high-priority threats, FraudCentral recommends enabling blocking for the FCC Target category.
  5. CLEC Complaints

High Risk - Recommended to Block

CLEC Complaints campaigns are associated with grievances reported by Competitive Local Exchange Carriers (CLECs), often due to issues like Telephony Denial of Service (TDoS) attacks or other disruptive activities.

Recommendation: FraudCentral recommends enabling blocking for CLEC Complaints to mitigate these risks, even if some campaigns may seem harmless.
